"The 2007 numbers indicate a record year for venture capital investment in New Mexico," said Les Matthews, NMVCA Board Member and Partner of Mesa Capital Partners. "More importantly, the diversity of funding rounds shows that companies of all stages are receiving venture capital financing. In 2005, our previous high in investment dollars, $92M went into 17 companies—in 2007 $121M went into almost twice as many companies."

The investments in Q4 of 2007 and totals for the full year 2007 included:

  Q4 2007 Full Year 2007
Deals Amounts ($M) Deals Amounts ($M)
Subordinated Debt 1 $0.3 3 $2.0
Seed 2 $3.0 6 $3.9
Early (Series A) 5 $2.7 13 $14.2
Later (Series B+) 2 $7.5 8 $101.2
Totals 10 $13.5 30 $121.3

"The figures for 2007, in addition to showing great growth over past years, reflect a distribution that is similar to what you see in other, mature markets," said Brian Birk, NMVCA Board Member and Managing Partner of Sun Mountain Capital. "The largest number of deals are occurring at the seed and early rounds (63%), but the lion's share of the capital is going into fewer, larger, later stage deals. This is exactly what we would expect, and it is excellent to see the continued development of this market."
